Behind The Song : "Sowing Tears"

“Those who sow with tears, will reap with songs of joy.” Psalm 126:5
This is one of the most important songs for me on the record, as it was one of three songs to be written shortly after we lost our twin babies and explores a fairly uncommon song theme.
In the midst of our sorrow, Cassie and I listened to a sermon by Tim Keller from Psalm 126 - “those who sow tears of sorrow will reap songs of joy”. Essentially Keller encouraged us to “not waste our tears” (treat them as meaningless or embarrassing) but rather we are to sow our tears expecting an abundant return. The idea that tears are not useless, that God is not embarrassed by them, and that He see's our weeping, is extremely important to know for anyone who is experiencing significant sorrow.
I admit, there is some mystery and significant emotion around the theme of tears, along with some wonderful promises of God.
God allows tears this side of heaven, (in fact, we have three instances of the Son of God weeping - John 11:35, Luke 19:41, Hebrews 5:7), they are a part of our multi-dimensional make-up, and He promise's that one day those tears will be wiped away forever.
Until then, we are expected to invest our tears well - to pray them back to a God who loves us, to express to Him our sorrow and to weep with those who are weeping. All the while looking forward to the day when our tears will lead to a harvest of inexpressible joy.
